Komari
Only in Vain
For thirty days and nights the kingdom was tortured
Great evil lurked the land with greatest of ease
Flowing across the land in luxury
The great King Ratasious, son of Yriom, danced gallantly
Fighting back the flock of monsters
Forcing them to the endless blue, the end of land
There the great evil stayed
Peace chimed throughout the kingdom with revelry
Warriors cheered with mighty whispers of glory
Their king, Ratasious, ended the thirty-day war
Boasts were made abroad
Tales were spun by the chirping-men
Only five feeble days and nights it lasted
The revelry was met with fierce vengeance
The night-beasts came in croons
Hideous in ways the thinking-apes cannot imagine
So cruel are they that man-creator and soul-devourer fear them
Children of forgotten times
Children of Cain joining the dance
They tortured those that dared the dance
So was their way across the eagle-road
King Ratasious called his most courageous kinsmen to him
Calling for a retaliation to this most despicable attack
When gathered they all filled the great glorious hall
King Ratasious, son of Yriom, spoke,
Hear me kinsmen! Know that we shall not let them swallow our children
Neither destroy our crops of life nor allow them to bring upon us the plague!
A sounding to arms
The brought forth spears, swords, shields, and armor of the highest make
Time for revelry had past
Thus had these brave men's lives passed
In service they died slowly
Loyal men sprawled about the ground
One left standing among the dead
King Ratasious pulled him aside for counsel
Grant me a wish brave thane
Go away from this doomed land
Far away and bring forth a child
A child who shall destroy the dark
Looking down Thfue spoke
Your wish is done my lord
Though I would hope otherwise
A son I shall have and on this day his victory will be death
Thfue left his king in battle and went on his way
King Ratasious danced gallantly
He paid the price any king would gladly pay
Defending his kingdom from certain doom
King Ratasious died by the sword as he had lived
Soon followed his kingdom
The Coming
Twenty-five years the creatures plagued the land
Eternal darkness caressed every soul with Fear's icy grip
Green, no longer seen in the blissful darkness
Lightening struck down those with hearts of good
Until Komari walked unto the land
Komari strode into the kingdom
Arrogance, brashness, courageousness filled the air
Some said he was built of stone when castings their eyes upon him
Others that he was fashioned out of the strongest steel
He stalked like a cat waiting to pounce its prey
Komari, son of Thfue, was warrior born
And born in the light was this warrior
Striding with purpose so electrified it suppressed the swelling darkness
Horari, thane to Mewonae, saw his coming from afar
Running rampantly into the mead hall he told his lord and king
"Komari comes my lord! Wearing the steel of war."
Mewonae, son of Ratasious, spoke
"Greet him to our foul lands. Grant him whatever he desires for coming
Then send him on his way. We have fought and lost
Even one such as him cannot defeat evil such as this."\
Horari complied with his lord's wishes
Running swiftly with speed of a cheetah to grant Komari gifts
Gifts fit only for kings were given to him
Komari threw open the hall doors and stood solemnly
He glanced about, throwing his head like a whip back with scorn
Then he spoke,
"Mewonae, son of the great Ratasious, it is an honor.
You bid me to leave your humble kingdom so soon?
And grant me gifts I am unworthy of?
Allow me the chance to purge this kingdom of its evils
So I may be worthy."
Mewonae spoke softly
"You are a fool Komari
My father died fighting the dark
He died in the dark
And so shall my kingdom perish
I beg thee to leave before any harm comes to thee."
Komari laughed, shaking the stone
"Why I shall fight the first evil only in loincloth
With only my hands at that."
Komari goaded the king
Standing the feeble Mewonae pointed to the east
Directing Komari to his first challenge
And most certainly his death
Death Reaver
To the east lay the Evil, Death Reaver
Weakest of the 12 Evils
Torturer of the common man
Frail in size, strong in mind
This was the Death Reaver
At night screams filled the lush night air
The screams of innocent children that was too adventurous
For at night the Death Reaver stalked his prey
Accompanied by his mate at times they slaughtered the children
For some souls this was hell
Others a route to heaven by walking straight into the mouth of hell itself
Such were the conditions of the night Komari set out for the hunt
Shrieks of pain surrounded him
Shattering his dim hopes in the hearts of the people
Women already wept his passing into the afterlife
He had but begun his journey
At a marcato pace he stepped
Picking up his pace's tempo with step
Impatient for the fight that burned in his soul
Yearning to tear apart Death Reaver
His wish came too soon for some
Death Reaver fell upon Komari with a ferocity befitting rabid wolves
Komari thought it was his loincloth or maybe his smell
That could have brought the beast upon him so soon
It was the sweet smell of anger that lured Death Reaver
The pungent smell of death around Komari lured Death Reaver
Death Reaver's mate Maetina, Queen of rats, followed
Both tore at Komari's flesh
Staggering backwards Komari regained his balance
Standing firm like an iron statue Komari flicked his ear in insult to the two
He readied himself
Then pounced on them like a wounded animal
Their collision, a bomb exploding in air, sent them sprawling
Tearing at each other with power untold
Komari choked them with his bear paws
Forcing his grip to tighten with each passing second
Maetina bit at his hands with her pets to loosen his grip
It failed
Death Reaver spat burning saliva on his hand
It failed
A third Evil appeared then, Pautn
Lord of Imps jumped Komari from behind
Throwing the brash warrior ten lengths into a hut
Standing slowly Komari looked at the evils
Three Evils he now faced
All three of different standing in this land plagued by darkness
He stood motioning his hand to signify their deaths
Each reacted with a roar
Earsplitting to normal men but to Komari it was their last wish
Then it truly began
Death Finds Three
Wrestling each one in confusing unison
Never gaining ground or falling back
Bones began to feel weak and break
Muscles ran sore
Pautn was the best of the three
Komari slowly began to concentrate on him alone
Grasping the imps neck in a grip that assured death
Komari grappled with Pautn for only minutes before Pautn died
The son of Thfue tore Pautn's torso from his legs
The red river ran free from his body
A sea of rats overtook Komari in his moment of glory
Merely growling the rats fled from the fight
Angered, bloodied the son of Thfue took the two Evils at once
Both tearing at his flesh for a taste of his blood
Komari throwing his fists like sledge hammers at their bodies
Maetina was the first of the two evils to perish from the assult
Komari staggering from the rips in his skin
Threw her in her lover's path of blind rage
Her arms tore from her body by her own lover
The clouds of eternal darkness shrouded her eyes
Death Reaver and Komari locked into mortal combat
Neither giving nor gaining ground on the other
Komari pounded at Death Reaver's head and chest
Death Reaver slashed at his chest and arms
Gaining on Komari, he stuck his claws through Komari's side
Bolts of blood shot from Komari
Rage of unreasonable power overtook Komari
Blinding light flashed around the combatants
Filling the sky, the earth cleansing away Death Reaver's taint
And only Komari stood, Death Reaver's head in his closed fist
Wearily he tore their heads from their bodies
Fixing them about his belt as he strode down the horse's path
Imp-Punisher
Komari wound the way of the horse back to the meadhall
Throwing open the doors on his way
Gasps rang silent throughout the hall
At the sight of the three heads hanging from the son of Thfue's belt
Wide eyes King Mewonae stood
The King spoke
"Great warrior you have lived up to your legend
Done well by your blood
Paid the price of foolishness
Now will you be gone from my cursed kingdom?"
Komari spat at the King's knived words
"No, there is much left
9 Evils are all that stand in my way
Tonight I ask to rest here in this meadhall
But no thanes shall sleep besides me
For fear they will perish"
Nodding the weak King Mewonae granted his wish
After the speech great revelry took place
Thanes stumbled about the day drunk as if night
Night came quickly upon the land as it always had
Creatures lurked about the outer reaches of the eagle's way, waiting
King Mewonae spoke as he left
"Komari you are a fool
Courageous but a fool
Tonight shall be your death
You have killed three evils
Two will be hunting for you at least tonight
Your strength is proven now leave I beseach you."
Komari scolded the King with his iron edged tongue
"I pay a price worthy of a King."
Turning he readied himself
Chingling chain mail draped his body
Clanking plate mail clasped him whole
Komari was ready
Now and forever he was ready
Outside the meadhall the wind whispered
Whispered of the night's coming horrors
Komari waited, listening to its whipers
In the latest of the night grunts overtook the room
6 Evils stood before Komari battle drawn
The tallest sliming Evil was Gatieng, Lord of Bats
The others were unknown to him
The slowly moved about him
Not a sound escaped their feet
Without premise or thought Komari lept at the evils
Two with claws like swords slashed at him
Komari rolled away
They killed one another like flies
The remaining four circled him, sizing him up for his strength
Led by Gatieng they lunged at him
Komari dodged and blocked many thrashes
His armour protecting his limbs
He greabbed the smallest one's claws
Splashing them through another's skull
Breaking the small one in half with a snap of his fingers
Death's touch polluted their bodies
He made ready to face Gatieng and the last Evil
Turned to find Gatieng killing it
The Lord of Bats chuckled at Komari
He drew his claws from his wing
Snarled a challenge of strength
Komari drew his sword and met Gatieng's wing
Light flashed as they met
Darkness swelled as they missed
Silently the darkness took them
Gatieng Dies
The Lord of Bats wrestled Komari
Brilliantly swooping and attacking
Avoiding the steel vise of Komari
Sneak attacking Komari from behind
Komari knew the wings had to go
With the wings on the Lord of Bats he would not live
Gripping the dagger from an earlier battle in his steel vise
Blasting the dagger through the air and Gatieng's wings
Now even terms were met by both
A giraffe was the height of Gatieng
Towering three full heads over Komari
Gatieng smashed Komari through the thick splintered oak table
Komari tossed Gatieng and left Gatieng's mark on the brazen stone
Gleefully Gatieng pranced about Komari
Komari grew wary
Watching patiently for his moment
God-son grabbed the Evil and spun the rag about
In his final rotation he brought Gatieng down to shake the Earth
Timber fell about as Komari gripped the thick neck
Lord of Bats knew his time was growing short
Swinging his claws about in a clean motion
He sliced Komari's battered forehead
Nothing ever like this had happened
Not so deep in Komari's life
Komari raged like a stuck pig
He tossed the Lord of Bats from wall to wall
Smashing tables relentlessly with Gatieng's body
God-son wrestled the Lord of Bats to exhaustion and still fought
Then everything happened
Komari stood before Gatieng
Brought up his mighty mallet
And subdued the Evil with his mighty mallet
Gatieng thrashed at the insect gripping him
Komari held on with a vice grip
Gatieng was tortured till morning
Then he died painfully impaled by the sun's mighty javelin of light
Laying down in exhaustion, Komari slept
Death will not Wait
King Mewonae threw open the doors of his thrashed meadhall
Looking about the ruins lewidly spewed about
Six Evils lay piled in the center of the tremendous room
Off to the corner lay the warrior madman
The meek king rained down on Komari with spite and vengence
"You are a guest and you destroy my hall
You think to destroy that which will regrow
You are foolish indeed young hero!"
Komari quietly spoke, the ground trembling upon his words
"King Mewonae I merely did as I said
I did not do that which you wanted
But here lie six more Evils of your realm.
Please point me to the last three."
Komari readied his armour as he finished
Shocked by the abruptness of Komari the king rasped
"Off to the north lies its home
There you shall find all three
These three are greater than all you have destroyed.
Great as you are they are far greater."
Komari took his leave of the hall
He marched down the wagonways northward
Kicking up dust as he marched past the wagons
Through the reptile dwellings he continued
Through the forest he cleared his way
Kicking over the mighty oaks that barred his way
Yet no creature stirred to step in his path
Onward he marched into the lake of fire
Down into the home of Darkness where Evil dwelled
Komari shook his head in dismay
A gragon and two elementals were the final evils
The alementals appeared patient and thoughtful
The fire-drake wanted to hunt and kill
Still young and thoughtless
Komari stood up to his full height
Dwarving any man in the land and bellowed
"Evils hear my eventful thoughts!
Today shall do battle witrh thee
And may the victor be the better of us!"
Drawing his sword he lunged at the dragon
The dragon spit its venomous flames
Biting at Komari's armour
Komari slashed at the dragon with his magnificent blade
Striking it upside its head to distract the beast
Bringing his shield around in a roundabout way Komri slashed off a scale
The fire-drake withdrew from the battle hiding behind the elementals
Frightened by the thought of a human harming it
The fiery one stepped forward to greet Komari
"Welcome son of Thfue
Here is your final resting place
you have no hope against us
Nothing can stop us as we are now."
Komari glared at the elemental
He spat at it in disgust and hurdled forward into the battle
Komari blocked the blows of the elementals with his shield
Though this lasted only shortly
Their strength was great
Earth and Fire combined to rain terror on such a place
Komari stuck his sword deep into the Earth and threw him into the Fire
The two melded into one before his eyes
Then with a lift of a hand Komari was engulfed in earth and fire
He broke free of the torture only to lose his armour
Tatterecd and shattered it hung off his sweating frame
Feirth sprung at him with a vengence
Its hand burned and pounded his flesh all at once
The power was too much for Komari
He stood through it all
Boils bubbling through his flesh
Bruises swelling to cover the boils
Feirth malled him with extreme malice
Still Komari stood
Now he fell at the very end of it he fell
Feirth smiled at him wickedly
Lifted his head up to kill him
Komari beat them to it
Thrusting his sword deep into himself
Till only the hilt was still visible
Light streamed forth from everywhere and nowhere at once
The Darkness left the land
Thus the hero died in his glory
His greatest moment, his saddest moment
He was Komari, hero of a day long past gone
